Described as the ‘kumbh of literary festivals’, the 10th edition of the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival was successfully held from January 19-23, 2017 at Diggi Palace, Jaipur. Over 400 world leading names and minds in the fields of fiction and non-fiction writing created a feast of words in the Pink City, including Javed Akhtar, Ashwin Sanghi, Lila Azam Zanhaneh, Prasoon Joshi, Richard Flanagan, Luke Harding, Bibek Debroy, Paul Beatty, Mallika Dua, Hardeep Singh Puri, Hyeonseo Lee, Alan Hollinghurst and Shashi Tharoor.

The authors invited to ZEE JLF 2017 represented writing in 30 languages and both ZEE JLF and its sister event Jaipur BookMark had a focus on the undervalued art of translation and the cultural benefits of sharing literature from around the world.

Jaipur BookMark also organised the second Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize, which was won by designer Pinaki De for the book Kalkatta by Kunal Basu. A second prize was awarded at Jaipur BookMark this year, the Vani Foundation Distinguished Translator Award to well known translator, poet, writer and critic Dr Anamika.

Next year, the ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival will run from January 19-23, 2018. The Festival has already announced a handful of writers lined up for next year including Amy Tan, Arundhathi Subramaniam, Dipanker Gupta, Davesh Soneji, Graham Swift, Hari Kunzru, Ian McEwan, Mario Vargas Llosa, Michael Morpurgo, Michael Palin, Neil Gaiman, PJ Harvey, Rohinton Mistry, Sunita Narain, Viet Thanh Nguyen and Zadie Smith.

Three Leaves Books International, a unit of Lajwanti Group, is a celebrated publisher and distributor of children’s school and reference books full of fun and knowledge. Daniell Comes to Judgement, authored by Keki N. Daruwalla and published by Niyogi Books was recently launched in New Delhi The book is a collection of short stories by Daruwalla, the acclaimed poet-cum novelist at his very best. There are new stories here written especially for this book in a span of less than two months and perennial favourites [of vintage worth] still relevant in today’s changed times. The collection showcases the author’s enduring range.

CAPEXIL, an Export Promotion Council under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India organised the Export Award Presentation Ceremony in New Delhi recently. Anant Gangaram Geete, Hon’ble Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Govt. of India felicitated the meritorious exporters ranging from large conglomerates, PSUs to MSME units for their export excellence. On this occasion, Harinarayan Rajbhar, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and J K Dadoo, IAS, Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India also encouraged the Indian exporting community for their achievements and given thrust on export promotion in the interest of the country in general and to advance members’ business in particular.

At this occasion, the Hon’ble Minister also enlightened the exporting community with major Govt. policies to boost Indian trade and commercial activities and the pro-business approach of Govt. of India. Ramesh K Mittal, Chairman of CAPEXIL also congratulated all the export award winners and expressed the commitment from the Council’s side for best possible service and facilitation to their esteemed member exporters.

There were a total of 166 export excellence awards distributed to the leading member exporters under the Highest Exporters, Top Exporters, Special Exporters as well as Certificate of Merit Categories.

At its 62nd Annual General meeting, the Federation of Publishers and Booksellers conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran publisher KPR Nair, founder-proprietor of Konark Publishers. Nair has published more than 1,500 educational, academic and trade books, both for the domestic and global markets.

Also, SC Sethi's Memoir, Pages from my Life, published by Viva Books, was released by Dr Narendra Jadhav, Member of Parliament, (Rajya Sabha).

The book is a manual for newcomers to the publishing industry, one of the largest in the world. The release function was attended by all the members of the FPBAI and family/friends of SC Sethi, president of the FPBAI.
