Posthumous Memoir Wins Book Of The Year @ The British Book Awards 2026
The British Book Awards 2026 celebrated women’s stories and the power of books to bring silenced voices to the fore,with momentous wins for Nobody’s Girl (Doubleday) by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, co-written by Amy Wallace, and Careless People (Macmillan) by Sarah Wynn-Williams. In a rare moment for the awards, children’s authors took home both the coveted Author of the Year and Illustrator of the Year crowns, with wins for Skandar series creator AF Steadman and Dog Man writer and illustrator Dav Pilkey respectively, as well as a landmark victory for Michael Rosen, who celebrated his 80th birthday week with a win.
Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice (Doubleday), the powerful and devastating posthumous memoir from Virginia Roberts Giuffre, co-written by Amy Wallace, was announced as Book of the Year. The memoir was also awarded Non-Fiction: Narrative Book of the Year.
